Anna: "I teach Japanese Sword Fighting"

What´s your name and job title and what qualifications have you earned?

I’m Anna. I have a M.Sc. in Molecular Bioengineering where I specialized on high-throughout data analysis. In the course of the years, I have shifted to ”pure IT” but I have kept a habit of approaching things from a scientific attitude. By now I would call myself an software architect and consultant which is also what I do at SyoSil.

What exactly are you doing at SyoSil?

I run software projects for clients, usually both as manager on SyoSil side and as a developer. Once in the while I also give talks or work with the processes themselves. The human side of software development is something I find very exciting.

What are your professional strengths?

I like puzzles. I am good in abstracting problems systematically and then sort its aspects to engineer a solution that fits the task at hand. Also, I am quick in getting into new fields. Challenges like new domains or ressource restrictions are welcome to me. As a former scientist I also have a strong sense for accuracy and for how it important it is to make your work reproducible.

What characteristics should one have to fit in well at SyoSil?

You should be able to organize your work yourself. At SyoSil, you are usually not supervised closely. You have a lot of freedom and can – up to a certain degree of course – work in your own fashion. That means you must be able to ask questions and make requests on your own initiative.

How did you settle in?

I basically jumped into my first project right away, that was quite a start! I got a lot of support though, so it was easy for me to get up to speed.
Also socially I felt well among my new colleagues quickly. We are all relaxed, cordial, a bit nerdy people here. We laugh a lot at lunch.

What did you do previously? What were your responsibilities?

I have worked as a software developer in different science and research related companies. Most of the time I developed in-house software, such as a LIMS (laboratory information management system), but I also took part in the generation of algorithms and data analysis flows. Later I did non-scientific project work in web industries. While starting as pure technical expert I have gradually taken over more and more management tasks, too.

Whenever you’re not busy thinking about SyoSil how do you spend your free time?

I love dance and interactive theater and sometimes also perform myself. My biggest passion is martial arts, though. I practise aikido and Japanese sword fighting. I also teach these arts.
Kevin: "I love Board Games"

What’s your name and job title and what qualifications have you earned?

My name is Kevin Steffensen. At Syosil I have the title of Verification and Project Lead. While working for Syosil I have gained a detailed knowledge of verification and UVM and I have contributed to establishing the UVM best practices that we use when carrying out verification tasks for our customers.

What exactly are you doing at SyoSil?

I currently work as SCRUM Master for a team of 7 people doing both design and verification tasks. My tasks mostly consist of co-ordinating with the customer and helping the rest of the team be as efficient as possible. When possible I also contribute to the verification, which is done using SystemVerilog UVM.

What are your professional strengths?

I have an analytical mind and I am good at categorizing, abstracting and generalizing new concepts. I also have strong knowledge of RTL testbench architecture in general and UVM in particular.

What characteristics should one have to fit in well at SyoSil?

The main characteristic needed to fit in at Syosil is a love of learning new things. Syosil works with some large companies doing complex IC designs in complex environments. The likelihood that you will be familiar with all aspects of your task at the beginning of a project is very low, and if you don’t find it fun to learn new things you will have a hard time.

How did you settle in?

I like the dynamic and informal environment at Syosil so I settled in very quickly.

What did you do previously? What were your responsibilities?

Before my current position as SCRUM master I worked as a verification engineer, helping a customer migrate from VMM to UVM by building UVM agents and other general testbench infrastructure.

Whenever you’re not busy thinking about SyoSil how do you spend your free time?

I have a young son who is currently taking up pretty much all of my free time. I hope he will at some point allow me time for my hobbies of Crossfit and board games.
Come join our SyoSil family, we promise you it will be nerdy and fun.
